MONTICELLO — Camp Courageous, a year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities, has announced volunteer and job opportunities. The camp serves individuals with mental and physical disabilities, head injuries, hearing or visual impairments, autism, and other special needs. Camp Courageous offers staff housing separate from campers, along with competitive pay and benefits compared to any camp in the state of Iowa.
One counselor said, "I love that I have an opportunity to impact campers and make a difference in their lives.”
Camp Courageous volunteers have made a huge impact on making the camp a success. Volunteering is a great way to get involved and get introduced to working with individuals with disabilities. You can start with helping during a respite care weekend or jump into a summerlong volunteer position. Volunteers are needed as counselors, as well as in every camp department.
Camp Courageous offers unique activities such as a zip line, indoor swimming, music park, bowling alley, and several adventure activities. Working at the camp is a great way to build experience for future careers in the fields of nursing, social work, physical therapy, occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, education, psychology, sociology, and more.
Benefits at Camp Courageous include a health insurance plan for year-round positions. Apply on line by accessing the camp’s website at www.campcourageous.org.
