Peter " PJ" "Pete" Hasler, 85, died Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the Anamosa Care Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, at Peace United Church of Christ, Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty; his sons, Wade and Kevin (Chris); a granddaughter, Ashley Halser; three great-granddaughters, Elli, Skyli and Lilly; two sisters, Esther Kirby and Martha Lantermans; two brothers, Ken (Bev Harms) Hasler and Lester (Yolanda) Hasler; and in-laws, Sharon Hasler, Ron (Brenda) Burrichter and Verna Burrichter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Jessica; his sister, Susanna Ellison; and two brothers, James and Robert.
Peter Joseph Hasler was born Jan. 14, 1937, at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa. He was the son of James and Kathrine Meyer Hasler. Pete attended Monticello Community Schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17, working as a machinist mate. He returned from service and attended Provo Trade Tech School. Pete then worked for Altorfer Machinery in Cedar Rapids for 10 years. Pete married Elizabeth"Betty" Burrichter on Sept. 13, 1958, at Peace United Church of Christ. The couple farmed east of Monticello for 38 years.
Peter was an active member of Peace United Church of Christ. He served as a Lovell Township Trustee, and was on the rural fire department board and ambulance board. He delivered food pantry supplies for 10 years.
