The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at the funeral home. Memorials will be directed to the family to establish an education fund for his sons. Neil was born in the City of Orange, Orange County, Calif., May 9, 1971, to Harry G. Walters and Barbara Spencer. He lived in California until he was 4 years old, then moved to Creston, Iowa. He grew up loving the outdoors, and just being a boy. One thing he didn't like was snow. When he first saw it, he called it "white dirt."
He was educated at Creston community schools, graduating in 1989. He worked as a cable installer for independent contractors in many states, also for Northrup Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The last few years he worked for Gits Manufacturing and Wellman's as an x-ray technician. During his free time, Neil enjoyed being outdoors; fishing, golfing, sitting around a fire, listening to music and being around friends and family.
Neil leaves three sons, Harry, Haydn and Noble Walters; his mother and stepfather, Barbara and Gary Spencer; stepmother, Jennifer Walters; two sisters, Karie Walters and Jennifer Menzner (Jonathan Menzner); two half-siblings, Chancy Walters (Jess Johnston) and Haylee Alley (Nick); three stepbrothers, Bryan Spencer (Kathi O'Neill), Tom Spencer (Jessica) and Randy Spencer (Vanissa); several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins. He also leaves behind many friends including special friend, Nicole Stevens.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Gustuff Walters; and grandparents, Willard and Helen Walters and John and Opal Noble.
