DES MOINES — A look at Saturday’s games at the girls’ state basketball tournament at Wells Fargo Arena:
No. 5 Cedar Rapids Xavier (19-6) vs. No. 3 Sioux City Heelan (23-2)
CLASS 4A CHAMPIONSHIP
Time: 2:30 p.m.
Coaches: Xavier Coach Tom Lilly is 597-275 in 37 seasons overall, including 408-173 in 24 years at Xavier. Darron Koolstra owns a 230-66 mark in 12 seasons at Heelan.
Top players: Libby Fandel (6-0, fr.) paces Xavier at 13.0 points per game. Kyla Mason (5-11, jr.) spearheads a productive bench at 9.8 points per contest. Brooklyn Stanley (5-8, soph.) is Heelan’s scoring leader at 14.0 points per game. Kenley Meis (5-9, jr.) adds 12.9 ppg.
How they got here: Xavier advanced with wins over No. 7 DeWitt Central (62-55) and No. 1 Dallas Center-Grimes (55-50, in triple-overtime). Heelan picked up victories against No. 11 Waverly-Shell Rock (54-33) and No. 2 Glenwood (68-51).
