Iowa DNR practices slumlord management

I hope the park rangers win! What was said by state Sen. Joe Bolkcom is so very true. How much have lumber and building materials plus the cost of contractors increased over the past few years? Say 30 to 40 percent? Consider the $1 million in estimated ranger home repairs, minus 30 percent, if done just a couple years ago. The result would be reasonable. The DNR management chooses to let the ranger housing deteriorate for years until the cost of repair increased to the point it can be deemed too expensive to repair. This is slumlord management. What the hell are they going to do with the 32 unrepaired properties?
Maybe someone can explain why it’s fine that Iowa taxpayers continue to pay for presidents’ residences at state supported universities.
Glad someone stepped up to tell it like it is. This is defunding the DNR full-time, feet on-the-ground staff. As we saw with the pandemic, more Iowans traveled to state parks and enjoyed their rich history and beauty. Instead of protecting and enhancing them, they are continued to be treated with disrespect and disdain. State government can and should do better.
