DES MOINES — A look at Thursday’s games at the girls’ state basketball tournament at Wells Fargo Arena:
No. 5 Cedar Rapids Xavier (18-6) vs. No. 1 Dallas Center-Grimes (21-3)
CLASS 4A SEMIFINAL
Time: 5 p.m.
Coaches: Xavier Coach Tom Lilly is 596-275 in 37 seasons overall, including 407-173 in 24 years at Xavier. Adam Jones has been at DCG for seven years and owns a 116-44 mark.
Top players: Libby Fandel (6-0, fr.) paces Xavier at 13.0 points per game. Kyla Mason (5-11, jr.) spearheads a productive bench at 9.8 points per contest. Emma Miner (6-0, jr.) is DCG’s leader at 13.9 points per game. Finley Fitzgerald (5-8, jr.) comes off the bench and scores 7.9 ppg.
How they got here: Xavier scored the last five points to clinch a first-round win over No. 7 DeWitt Central, 62-55. Four Saints scored in double digits. DCG ousted No. 14 Benton Community, 64-38, behind 10 3-pointers in 19 attempts.
