Linn deputy shot on duty is Hinson’s guest for Biden speech
Halverson is virtual guest for State of the Union

First District U.S. Rep. Ashely Hinson selected Linn County sheriff's Deputy Will Halverson to be her virtual guest Tuesday for the president’s annual report to Congress.
Halverson was shot last June while responding to a robbery in Coggon. The accused robber shot him 10 times, but Halverson was wearing a bulletproof vest and, while badly injured, survived.
“Deputy Will Halverson is a hero. He ran toward danger and put himself in harm's way to protect our community, as all of our law enforcement officers pledge to do,” the Marion Republican said.
Halverson thanked her and expressed his gratitude for the support he has received from the community as he recovers.
“This experience has reaffirmed that serving in law enforcement is right where I belong,” Halverson said.
