Elder Iowans can be political role models

My 94-year-old mother, in an assisted living facility, sat at lunch with an interesting conversation with fellow elders. She began, “Did you see that our Iowa governor is promoting the idea of no income tax for seniors?”
Her group smiled and praised that idea.
Then mom replies, “No, that is not good. If you belong to a club, do you not pay your membership fees to keep that club going? We need to pay our fair share despite our age. All of us that can afford to live in assisted living, can surely pay our share!”
Her friends nodded in agreement. I was so proud that in 2020, these women and men were picked up in vans and driven to the polls to vote. They have not given up on the democracy they fought for. Be like them. Know the facts before you go to the polls this fall.
Our grandparents are still role models for us in discussing politics and wanting the best for Iowans.
