No. 5 Iowa City High (19-4) vs. No. 4 Pleasant Valley (21-2)

CLASS 5A QUARTERFINAL

Time: 11:45 a.m.

Coaches: Bill McTaggart is in his 24th season at Iowa City High, where he is 427-129. He owns a career mark of 519-190 in 19 years overall. Jennifer Goetz owns a 12-year record of 201-76 overall, including a title with Davenport Assumption, and is 176-74 in 11 years at Pleasant Valley.

Top players: Iowa State commit Kelsey Joens (5-10, jr.) leads City at 21.6 points per game, and grabs 6.1 rebounds per contest. Eviyon Richardson (5-11, sr.), an Omaha signee, adds 15.9 points and 7.9 boards per game. Halle Vice (6-1, jr.) is the Spartans’ lone double-digit scorer, but she’s a good one, scoring 20.3 points per game.

Tournament history: City High is making its 12th appearance, all since 2001. The Little Hawks won a 4A title in 2008. Pleasant Valley is in the field for the fourth time, the first since 2010.
