KATHY ANN COLWELL
Cedar Rapids
Kathy Ann Colwell, 61, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, Feb. 17, 2022, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Kathy was born Oct. 19, 1960, to her loving parents, Roger and Beverly Schneider. Kathy had one sibling, Peter Schneider. Kathy had a wonderful childhood in Wisconsin. She graduated from Winnebago Lutheran Academy in Fond Du Lac, Wis., and obtained her college degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Kathy went on to have a successful career in telecommunication customer service management with various businesses including MCI, Verizon and others. She enjoyed her career, but more importantly, she enjoyed those she was able to work with.
Kathy's true happiness came from her family. She married Richard Colwell on June 1, 1985, and they were fortunate to celebrate 36 years of marriage together. Kathy and Richard had one son, James Colwell. James married Megan (Vandenbos) on Oct. 8, 2016. Kathy's most treasured moments were watching James and his friends grow up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, James getting married, and every encounter with her grandchildren, Jackson (3.5) and Connor (1.5) Colwell.
Kathy will be remembered for many wonderful things. She had an innate desire to please everyone she encountered. Kathy loved to spend time in the kitchen, experimenting with new recipes, and could always remember her guests' preferences. She was also a masterful baker. Everyone loved her chocolate-chip cookies, homemade breads and other deserts.
Her loving in-laws, Mary and Joseph Colwell, and her granddaughter, Charlotte Rose Colwell, precede Kathy in death.
Her parents, Beverly and Roger (Jeanne) Schneider; her brother, Peter Schneider; her husband, Richard Colwell; her son, James (Megan) Colwell; her grandchildren, Jackson and Connor Colwell; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family survive Kathy.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale, Iowa. A Catholic funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at St. Pius X in Urbandale, Iowa. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service (around noon) at St. Pius. The family looks forward to seeing everyone who are able to attend these services.
Kathy was always a strong supporter of Catholic schools and education. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to St. Pius X Catholic School in Urbandale, Iowa.
