JOHN S. "STEVE" GREER
Iowa City
John S. "Steve" Greer, 72, of Iowa City, died Feb. 18, 2022, at his home following a bout with cancer.
Steve's family will greet friends Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. A Memorial Mass will begin Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. The Rev. Gary Beckman will officiate. Private burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
Instead of flowers and plants, Steve requested that memorials be directed to St. Wenceslaus Church, Iowa City Hospice or the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center.
Born May 9, 1949, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Vincent and Mary (Smith) Greer, Steve grew up in Tyndall, S.D. His family moved to Iowa City in 1964 and Steve graduated from Regina High School, with the class of 1967.
Steve met and later married Kami Lenoch on Jan. 3, 1981, in Iowa City.
He worked for Iowa Illinois Gas & Electric/MidAmerican Energy for 42 years, retiring in 2010.
He enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, playing golf, washing the car (the car with the KAMI plates!) and playing euchre. Steve also liked to spend time socializing with friends and family and taking road trips.
Survivors include his wife, Kami; daughter, Fallon Stefani (Matt) of Evanston, Ill.; son, Jesse Greer (Adriana) of Iowa City; brother, Mike Greer (Judy) of Round Rock, Texas; sister, Sarah Bush (Art) of Dubuque; grandchildren, Sloan and Sydney Stefani; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kelli Rinderspacher (Ed) of West Branch, Barry Lenoch (Tammy) of Champaign, Ill., and Sandi Thompson of Wellman; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kate Pohlman; and a brother-in-law, Steve Lenoch.
Steve's family would like to thank Dr. Berg from the Cancer Center and Iowa City Hospice.
