LILLIAN EMILY HAGEN
Homestead
Lillian Emily Hagen was born June 13, 1931, near Homestead, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Schaedlich) Roemig. She graduated from Amana High School in 1949 and the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport in 1950. She worked as a secretary to the president of Amana Refrigeration. Lillian was united in marriage to Richard Henry Hagen on May 24, 1952, at St. John Lutheran Church, near Homestead. In May 1953, she joined Richard in Germany, they lived there for six months. During that time, they traveled many times in Europe. When Richard returned home from the service they moved to the family farm, where they raised their five children. Lillian enjoyed reading, cooking, baking and spending time with her family. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, being baptized and confirmed on Nov. 28, 1951. She was also a member of St. John's Ladies Aid. Lillian passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022, at Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at the age of 90 years.
She is survived by three children, Patricia (Gary) Coleman of Iowa City, Blake Hagen of Middletown and Shelly Blaylock of Tiffin; a daughter-in-law, Denise DeLorme of Baton Rouge, La.; five grandchildren, Mitchell (Jess Goetz) Coleman, Collin (Cliff) Simmons, Hanna Hagen, Casey Blaylock and Nick Hagen; four great-grandchildren, Emily Rose Coleman, Christopher Thomas Coleman, Juniper Lillian Simmons and John Oscar Simmons; and a brother, Robert (Betty) Roemig of Homestead.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Sr.; two sons, Richard Jr. and Scott Hagen; son-in-law, Robin Blaylock; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Hagen; and two sisters, Marie Hagen and Viola Schmidt.
Celebration of Life Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at St. John Lutheran Church, near Homestead. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for the Alzheimer's Association or St. John Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
