Kae Crary (Nelson) Schmickley, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully from complications of Alzheimer's on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, surrounded by her family at Grand Living at Indian Creek.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Marion Methodist Church, with an additional visitation one hour prior to service, and burial to follow at LaFayette Cemetery. Livestreaming of the service will be available at www.marionmethodist.org.
Kae was born on Dec. 11, 1937, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Isabelle (Dunlap) Nelson. She was a 1956 graduate of Boone High School in Boone, Iowa, and went on to graduate from Boone Junior College. Kae was united in marriage to James H. Schmickley in Boone on Nov. 23, 1958. She worked for Life Investors/Aegon for 25 years, having earned her securities license. Kae was a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church and Marion Methodist Church. She was a longtime volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital, was a member of a quilting group and played in the bell choir at Lovely Lane. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Kae will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Kae is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Michael (Julie) of Algonquin, Ill., Susan (Eldon) Zacek Jr. of Concord, N.C., and Keith (Julie) of Marion; grandchildren, Jennifer, Bradley, Eldon III (Anita), Valerie (Alex), Kameron (Jamie), Quinn (Madonna), Mitchell, Emma, Cole, Leah and Allan; and great-grandchildren, Danika, Gabby, Jack, Devan, Mateo and Oliver.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, Eugene Nelson.
