Nola L. Ruiz, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center. Visitation will be held from
3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, followed by cremation.
Nola is survived by her children, Ramon Ruiz of Woodlawn, Tenn., Juan Ruiz, Maria (Jason Hangartner) Wayson and Marcelina Ruiz, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Ashley, Chelsea, Alissa, Dylan, Ian, Katie, Demeka, Marcia, Anastasia, Nolisa, Curtis, Joshua, Roman and Isabella; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Sara, Logan, Tyjuan and Ariana; sisters, Christina Wilson of Muscatine and Edna Embry of Belle Plaine; and a brother, David (Sharon) Chesmore of Derby, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Leona (Huster) Chesmore; sister, Donna Enriquez; and brothers, Charlie and Wesley Chesmore.
Nola was born Jan. 2, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, and was a lifelong resident. She was employed at Quaker Oats Co. for 43 years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and RWDSU Local 110. Nola enjoyed taking care of animals and people. She loved all children and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.
Nola was a very giving person and it was her wish that following her passing her eyes be donated so that someone else would be given the gift of sight.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by Nola's family.
