Morgan F. Hamer, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at the Hiawatha Care Center on Feb. 10, 2022, following a battle with cancer. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. Philip Thompson. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. Friends not attending the Rosary may visit with the family from on Tuesday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Morgan is survived by four sons, Douglas (Denise Alger), Michael (Paula) and Mark (Sue), all of Cedar Rapids, and Gary (Christy) of Savannah, Ga.; one daughter, Teresa Smith (Larry) of Cedar Rapids; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchild; sister, Laura Keister of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jeanette; son, Patrick; parents; and brothers, Allen and David.
Morgan was born on Sept. 6, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, the son of William and Florence House Hamer. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1953 and married Jeanette Knipper on Nov. 10, 1956, in Masonville. He was a mechanical engineer for Collins Radio/Rockwell Collins for 35 years, retiring in 1989. Morgan was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, a past Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus 5390, past Commodore with the Hawkeye Sailing Club, member of the Rockwell Retirees Lunch Club and in his later years, he enjoyed classes at the Rockwell Recreation Center with his "support group."
Morgan loved sailing, woodworking, snow skiing, camping, photography, solving puzzles and fixing things. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy.
