James A. Sargent, 87, of Fairfax, Iowa, formerly of Strawberry Point, passed away on Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. He was born on April 24, 1934, at home on the farm near Strawberry Point, the son of Ralph and Alma (Bushkofsky) Sargent. Jim attended rural country school near Hewitt Creek in rural Strawberry Point. He was a 1953 graduate of Strawberry Point High School.
On Sept. 10, 1953, Jim was united in marriage to Dorothy Wurch in Webster City. Two sons were born to this union. The family resided in rural Strawberry Point. Jim worked at Maquoketa Valley Creamery, as well as farmed on the family farm. In 1977 Jim eventually left the creamery and began farming full time. In 2002 Jim retired from farming and the couple moved to Fairfax.
Jim was a season ticket holder for Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball games and attended several bowl games. He liked deer hunting and loved John Deere tractors. Jim and Dorothy enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Sargent of Fairfax; his son, Jon Sargent of Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Sargent of Strawberry Point; a brother-in-law, John (Vivian) Wurch of Webster City; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffrey Sargent; and one sister, Norma Jean (Herman) Sargent-Scharff.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Emanual Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa, with Pastor Jerome Godson officiating.
Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Emanual Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point.
Interment: Cass Township Cemetery, Strawberry Point, Iowa.
