Gerald A. "Butch" Schmuecker, 82, passed away on Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

Butch was born, on Aug. 27, 1939, on the family farm near Watkins, the son of Leo and Blanche (Rotter) Schmuecker, and graduated from Norway High School. In 1965, he married Nancy McVay at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Norway. The couple later divorced. Butch farmed in the Watkins area.

Butch dearly loved being a grandpa, and spending time with family and friends was his greatest joy.

He is survived by his children, Michael Schmuecker of LaPorte City, Rodney Schmuecker of Newhall and Constance (Dallas) Janssen of Waseca, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Alex and Dylan Bear of Iowa City, Adyn and Sydney Schmuecker of LaPorte City, Ashley Schmuecker of Denver, Colo., Cole Schmuecker of Cedar Rapids, John and Dillon Janssen of Waseca, Minn.; and two sisters-in-law, Genrose Schmuecker of Cedar Rapids, and Adeline Schmuecker of Blairstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law Michele Schmuecker; three brothers, Marvin (Helen) Schmuecker, Donald Schmuecker and DeWayne Schmuecker; and two sisters, Delores (Robert) Fee and Nadine (Orville) Schulte.
