Allen Ernest Decious, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, at Heritage Nursing & Rehabilitation in Cedar Rapids. Family will greet family and friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, at Marion Christian Church located at 1050 McGowan Blvd. in Marion.
A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. on Monday at the church, with the Rev. Bryce Bowers officiating. All guests are required to wear a face mask. Burial will be held at Jordan's Grove Cemetery in Central City, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Allen was born on March 27, 1935, in Iowa City, Iowa, one of five children to Ernest Lester and Marjorie L. (Merritt) Decious. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1953 to 1956. On Nov. 29, 1957, Allen was united in marriage to Marlene Ruth Ranfeld near Victor, Iowa. He worked for Longview Fiber Paper & Packaging Plant for 35 years, retiring in 1995. Allen was a member of Marion Christian Church. He had a passion for woodworking and loved making wooden toys for good girls and boys throughout the years. He would build toys all year long and donate them at the end of the year by the truck load to Toys for Tots and Camp Courageous. Allen also enjoyed crafting and going to and selling his crafts at craft shows. He was a big Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears fan. He loved gardening and being outdoors, especially camping. Allen most loved being with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Allen is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Marlene Decious of Cedar Rapids; three sons, Randy Decious of Cedar Rapids, Dean Decious of Cedar Rapids and Ernie (Kim) Decious of Fairfax, Iowa; two grandsons, Paul Decious and Joseph Decious, both of Cedar Rapids; sister, Beverly (Glen) Hopson of Broomfield, Colo.; brother-in-law, Donald Buhmann of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Decious of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Marjorie Decious; two sisters, June Murray and Karen Buhmann; and brother, the Rev. Gaylon Decious.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Allen's memory may be made to either Care Initiative Hospice, Marion Christian Church, or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
