Tax cuts will not bring workers to Iowa

I just read Joe Murphy’s Guest column in The Gazette (“Modernized tax system will make Iowa competitive,” Feb. 2) and am astounded at the circular thinking he is espousing. According to him, lowering the corporate tax rate in Iowa will solve our worker crisis. Huh? So, if corporations have to pay less in taxes, workers will flock to Iowa? According to him, corporations will come to Iowa where they can’t hire workers, for the taxes they don’t have to pay. A flat tax will not help low-income workers, it is a regressive tax which will primarily help the rich. More trickledown economics which have not worked since Ronald Reagan championed them.
