Learn about and (hopefully) talk to owls this Friday in Jackson County

MAQUOKETA — Winter is a great time to go and “prowl for owls.” Join Jackson County Conservation on Friday at Prairie Creek Recreation Area at 6 p.m. for an owl prowl. An owl prowl is a nighttime outing into the woods and calling for owls in hopes that they call back. Mid-winter is a good time to hear owls calling because some species are establishing territory for mating.
Meet at the Prairie Creek pavilion, 1215 East Summit St., Maquoketa, at 6 p.m. The group will first learn about the owl species of Iowa and then hit the trails and try to get some owls to talk. Come dressed for the weather.
Please register by 48 hours in advance. To register, call the Hurstville Interpretive Center at (563) 652-3783 or email tony@jacksonccb.com
