Clara (Haronitis) Bohren, 94, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Jan. 28, 2022. Visitation: 5:30 to
6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with Trisagion service to begin at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Cedar Rapids.
Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Clara was born Dec. 12, 1927, in Crete, Greece, the daughter of John and Elaine (Montalemaki) Haronitis. After immigrating to the United States, she worked as a self-employed seamstress in Cedar Rapids. On April 29, 1963, Clara was united in marriage to Edward W. Bohren in Cedar Rapids. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, the Crete Association and was a lifetime member of the Pheloptohos (Friend of the Poor) of St. John. Clara enjoyed volunteering for Greek Festivals and Greek Dinners. She enjoyed cooking and shopping. Clara will be dearly missed by those who love her.
Survivors include her son, Edward J. Bohren and grandson, George (Allison) Bohren, all of Fairfax, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Cruz and Kaylee Bohren; sisters, Mary (Dwight) Williams of Maryland and Harouloi Hamiotaki of Greece; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Bohren; and brothers, Dimitrios Haronitis and George Haronitis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church.
