Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Vinton. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
We lost our kind-hearted dad, at the age of 85, on Jan. 28, 2022. He was born Jan. 2, 1937, on a farm north of Mount Auburn to William and Alma (Demmel) Miller. He was a brother to Rozella Belfield, Ramona Kirchner and Ronda Smith.
He graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
On Sept. 15, 1956, he married the love of his life, Shirley Mae Cantwell. They celebrated 64 1/2 years of marriage until her death on Feb.y 5, 2021.
Dad was a proud machinist of 31 years at John Deere. He worked hard to provide for his family. He was fortunate to retire at the age of 55. He and mom enjoyed their retirement traveling, bowling and visiting casinos together. They enjoyed nightly drives around town and "gravel travel" to go search and count deer. He loved to hunt, fish and archery. He was proud of his 24 point buck that he shot. He passed his love of the outdoors onto his boys and grandsons. He loved to be able to help with mowing the yard. It made him feel good to still be able to do "something."
He will be missed dearly by his three boys and two girls, Debra Miller, Dennis (Amber, Aiden and Avery), Dea Burroughs (Brad, Beth, Nathan, Maryn, Kason, Bryce, Devon, Brea, Cody and Rhett), Doug (Chris, Justin, Jamie, Rayleigh, Ryver, Jennifer, Danny, Peyton, Alivia, Johnathon, Kelly and Broxsin) and Darren (Julie); grand-dogs, Georgie, Buck, Barkley and Gracie; and all his "special" in-laws, nieces and nephews that were always family to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; daughter-in-law, Mary; in-laws: Paul, Lloyd, Steve, Duane (Teck), Don and Margie; and nephews, John and Jimmy.
Memorials may be directed to Lyle's family.
Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home of Vinton is caring for Lyle and his family. Condolences may be left at www.teahenfuneralhome.com.
