Ted Lee Hootman, 75, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids from COVID-19 and pneumonia. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A livestream of the memorial service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Ted Lee Hootman, under the video tab starting at
3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29. Visitation will be held from
4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family requests masks or face shields be worn by guests attending the visitation and service.
Ted was born Dec. 29, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Eugene and Elizabeth (Wilson) Hootman. He was the youngest of three children. Ted graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids in 1965. He married Cheryle Fields in September 1968 and they had three children. They later divorced. Ted married Virginia Anderson on Sept. 26, 1998, and gained three bonus children. He worked for Iowa Steel & Iron in Cedar Rapids and retired from Johnson Gas. Ted enjoyed being a member of a bowling league for his entire life. He owned a 1956 Chevy 210 and attended many car shows. In his free time, Ted enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, bowling, working on his Chevy and car shows and clubs.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Virginia; sister, Beverly Bruce; children, Dawn (Michael) Frederick, Michael (Christy) Hootman, Luci Reade, Jodi (Craig) Ivester, Amber (Tony) Hill and Tamera (Bryan) Ballard; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Nikki (Arron) LaGrange.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Gary Hootman; nephews, Gary Kim Hootman and Howard Hootman; former spouse, Cheryle Fields Hootman; and son-in-law, Tracey Reade.
