RICHARD “RICK” JAMES HEFFERNEN
Ardmore, Ala.
Richard "Rick" James Heffernen, 63, of Ardmore Ala., formerly of Manchester, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, at Berryhill Funeral Home and Crematory, Huntsville, Ala. The family requests that friends attending the service to please wear masks.
Rick was born in 1958 in Independence, Iowa, the son of Richard and Elaine (Lentz) Heffernen. He graduated from Manchester West Delaware High School in 1976. Rick united in marriage to Renee White on May 3, 1980, in Manchester, Iowa. This union was blessed with five children: Benjamin, Mandy, Nicole, Cody and Tyler. Rick moved his growing family to Alabama in 1985 and became a life-long self-employed carpenter after learning the skill from his father. Rick's honesty, integrity and hard work ethic provided a steady stream of work and an abundance of repeat customers. Rick's craftsmanship was top notch. Rick provided for his family well and his heart was spun from pure gold. Rick was an avid drummer, having played in a band during his early adult life, cheered for the Alabama Crimson Tide and loved fireworks. Most precious of all, Rick cherished time spent with all his family, including his four grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Renee; daughter, Mandy (Steve) LouAllen of Hartselle, Ala.; daughter, Nicole (Chris) Pierce of Elkmont, Ala.; son, Tyler of Ardmore, Ala.; his father, Richard L. Heffernen of Manchester; grandchildren, Jordin, Patrick, Logan and Laurel; brother, Dan (Cheryl) of Altoona, Iowa; sister, Kristine (Troy) McArthur of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; brother, Paul (Liz) of Manchester, Iowa; brother, John (Lorrie) of Manchester, Iowa; and brother, Mark (Rose Good) of Palo, Iowa.
Rick was preceded in death by his sons, Benjamin and Cody; and his mother.
