DAWN M. HETRICK
Oquawka, Ill.
Dawn M. Hetrick, 49, of Oquawka, Ill., passed away at 7:12 p.m. on Jan. 20, 2022, at the University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. Dawn was born April 4, 1972, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and was the daughter of Duane and Rosemary Kauten Johnson. She was raised in Cedar Rapids, where she attended local schools and graduated from Kennedy High School in 1990. She attended Hamilton Business College in Cedar Rapids, where she attained her bookkeeping degree. Dawn met and married Dustin P. Hetrick while working in the postal service on Oct. 16, 2010, in Oquawka, Ill. She began work as a bookkeeper at Amerigas Propane in Cedar Rapids for more than 10 years. She then went to work as a mail handler in Cedar Rapids and was employed there for 20 years before coming to Oquawka, where she served as postmaster. She was an avid sprint car fan in Knoxville, Iowa, and 34 raceway, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Iowa State fan. Her favorite team was the Hendco Hustle. Dawn was avidly interested in all of Dalton's sporting events and activities.
She is survived by her husband, Dustin of Oquawka, Ill., and her son, Dalton, also of Oquawka; her maternal parents, Duane and Rosemary Johnson of Marion, Iowa; paternal parents, William and Lori Hetrick of Carman, Ill.; her stepfather, Jerry Ator of Oquawka; her brother, Scott Johnson and Stacy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Dana Hetrick of Burlington, Iowa; her niece, Jolie Henry of Burlington, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Chris Ator and Michelle of West Burlington, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Elisha Roesel and Phil of Burlington, Iowa; and her grandfather-in-law, William Hetrick Sr. of Carman, Ill.
She was preceded in her death by her grandparents and her mother-in-law, Janice.
A graveside service for Dawn is planned on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Oquawka Cemetery in Oquawka, as cremation has been accorded. A memorial fund is being established for Hendco Hustle Baseball Team.
