Woman killed in home fire in SW Cedar Rapids Sunday
CEDAR RAPIDS - A woman was killed in a manufactured home fire Sunday in southwest Cedar Rapids.
Public safety officials said firefighters responded at 3:51 p.m. when a 911 caller reported the fire at 488 Drake St. SW, north of the Kirkwood Community College main campus.
Upon arrival, fire crews saw flames and smoke coming from the roof. As they suppressed the fire, rescuers found a victim in the room where the fire originated. They quickly moved her outside, but the woman — identified as 63-year-old Mary Jo Carlson — was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release.
No other victims were found and no firefighters were injured. The fire remains under investigation.
