Thomas Paul Babor, 68, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, at Living Center West from COVID-19. A private family service will be held at a later date at Teahen Funeral Home. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery.
Tom was born on Aug. 29, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, son of Paul and Gladys (Novotny) Babor. He graduated 1971 from La Salle High School and attended Kirkwood Community College. In 1973, Tom married Peggy Schmidt and they were later divorced.
Tom, a very private person, enjoyed reading science fiction, playing video games and taking photos. An excellent accordion player, Tom traveled around the world performing with the Accordion Aces and was very proud of his Czech heritage. He loved kolaches and kept close ties to the Clutier area. Tom enjoyed the holidays, especially being with his family, and will be missed.
Tom is survived by his sons, Chad (Joy) of Cedar Rapids and Jason (Kristine) of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Everly and Elijah; siblings, Terry (Jan) of Marengo, Connie (Kelly) Collins and Nancy (Paul) Charipar, both of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Living Center West for all their help. Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
