Matejka: Everyone knows it and must vote it
Myra Matejka, candidate for House District 70
Oct. 27, 2018 9:20 am
Everyone agrees the way in which our system operates is broken. Everyone agrees the bureaucracy hinders people instead of helping.
Everyone. Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Greens, United Independents, and Constitutionalists. Everyone. People who work for the government, people who work in unions, people who contract, entrepreneurs, and employees. Single parents, single income families, double income families, LBGTQ families. Families with disabled parents, families with disabled children. Families with kids, families without kids. Homeschool families, magnet school families, private school families. Muslim people, Christian people, Jewish people, secular people.
Everyone.
It is one thing that unites us all. The system is broken, and we would all rather not have anything to do with the system.
It is said the Republicans broke it, so you should vote Democrat. Likewise, the Democrats broke it so you should vote Republican. At every point, the system still is broken. The more laws passed, the more impact, and the more the system breaks. Laws are hard to repeal, they mostly end up looking like drywall patch on top of years of dry wall patch.
It is time to try new things. It is time to stop being reactive and start being proactive. It is time to change.
You might ask me, 'Why would you want to join the law-making legislature?” I have a lot of funny answers for this, but honestly, I'm not a politician. I'm not wealthy. But we all need to be diligent. We need to have representatives who are willing to write, introduce and pass laws restricting how this body holds power over our lives. Our checks no longer have balances. There are several things I would like introduced to ensure our state is encouraged to lessen the bureaucracy, minimize government impact, and maximize freedom.
This election is not about winners and losers. It is not about voting for a team. It is about you. You, the individual, are the largest minority in the world. I have read a lot of legislation proposed to the Iowa House for law. None have anything to do with restricting the body of the Iowa House. The time has come. Let's put our state moto back into action: Our liberties we prize, and our rights we will maintain.
' Myra Matejka is the Libertarian candidate in Iowa House District 70.
