Cedar Rapids man sentenced to 5 years for distributing heroin

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man, who distributed heroin and was caught after investigators set up a wiretap investigation on his drug supplier’s phone, was sentenced this week to five years in federal prison.

Antoine D. Jackson, 35, pleaded guilty in June to one count of conspiracy to distribute at least 100 grams of heroin.

According to evidence at the plea and sentencing hearings in U.S. District Court, Jackson and his co-conspirator, Sammie Williams, also charged for conspiracy to distribute, worked together in 2017 and 2018 to sell heroin in the Cedar Rapids area.

In January 2018, investigators put a wiretap on WIlliams’ phone, according to court documents.

Multiple people called the phone daily to arrange for heroin deals. Williams would set up the deal, and Jackson would deliver the heroin, usually distributing 0.2 grams of heroin per transaction. In total, Jackson distributed at least 46 grams of heroin.

U.S. District Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Jackson to 60 months in prison and also ordered him to serve five years of supervised release after prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Corkery and was investigated as part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force program of the U.S. Department of Justice through a cooperative effort of the Drug Enforcement Administration Cedar Rapids Resident Office; the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Cedar Rapids Police Department; and the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
