Robert Ebeling, 80, of Marion, passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2022, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine; sons, Robert Scott (Kris) Ebeling and Michael (Maddison) Ebeling; grandchildren, Lindsay, Rob and Wyatt; a sister, Nancy Ebeling; along with nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Judy; and first wife, Carol.
Robert Ebeling was born Dec. 4, 1941, to Ralph and Ann Ebeling in Iowa. He graduated from Marion High School in 1960. He then went on to join the Navy after graduation and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and Vietnam until 1964. He was married to Carol Ebeling in 1967 and had their son, Robert Scott Ebeling, then later divorced.
Robert worked as a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 20 years. After retiring from the USPS, he went on to work for the Linn-Mar School District for 10 years. He served on the Marion City Council from 1984-1996. In the 1980s, Robert was a Marion Reserve Police Officer. Robert was also an active member of the American Legion Post 298 in Marion.
Robert married Kathy in 1993. They went on to start a family in 1994 with their son, Michael. His hobbies included fishing, golfing, watching sports and spending time with family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the American Legion Post 298.
