Wronkiewicz: Legislature belongs to the people
Patrick Wronkiewicz, candidate for Senate District 43
Oct. 26, 2018 4:00 pm
Follow the money and you'll see how the decisions are made. There is no mistake about it: powerful special interests and corporate-funded PACs have taken control of politics in Iowa. The elite donor class pays off politicians in exchange for exclusive influence while us regular Iowans are left to fend for ourselves. This corrupt culture needs to end. My campaign has accepted zero money from special interests because access to politicians shouldn't be reserved for the highest bidders.
I have served our country in the United States Marine Corps and I am running for the Iowa Senate because I believe our legislature belongs to the people - not the billionaires.
Your voice deserves to be heard. It is impossible to hold our elected leaders accountable if they refuse to be accessible. That is why I promise to host town halls every Friday and Saturday during the legislative session.
Sustainable state funding to the University of Iowa is the biggest issue facing the district, and it will be my top priority. The university is the area's biggest economic driver. It is important we have a senator willing to reach across the aisle and not let petty politics stand in the way of these crucial funds.
When higher education funding gets cut, students see increased tuition, staff and faculty see decreased wages and private sector opportunities leave the district. To lower tuition and improve the economic prosperity of the area, I pledge to vote against any measure that cuts funding to the University of Iowa.
Access to affordable health care will be another priority. Too many Iowans have to face the choice of going broke or going without health coverage. The skyrocketing cost of health insurance in Iowa is due to the lack of options on the market.
I believe quality affordable health care should be accessible to all Iowans, and the Legislature shouldn't wait for Washington, D.C. to solve this problem. I support a plan that would expand health choice in Iowa to ensure middle class Iowans have as many affordable health care options as possible for themselves and their families.
Together, we can put an end to the corrupt culture that plagues politics. To learn more, please visit www.wronkforiowa.com and, this November, send a truly independent fighter to Des Moines who will put our interests above all else.
