Eddie R. Cox, 82, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, after a brief illness.
A memorial service will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at Ankeny Funeral Home. Eddie will be laid to rest at Dodge Cemetery in Bagley, Iowa, at a later date.
Eddie was born to Aurthur and Leota (Smith) Cox on May 24, 1939, in Bagley, Iowa. He graduated from Bagley High School in 1956 and attended Wartburg University. In 1958, Eddie enlisted into
the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country.
On May 26, 1961, Eddie married
Connie Luxford. The couple was blessed with two children, Shelley and Steve.
The family made their home in Ankeny,
Iowa, in 1975.
Eddie was the owner of Petro Equipment Co. in Des Moines for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1998. Eddie was a lifelong supporter of University of Iowa athletics and was a 40-year season ticket holder for Hawkeyes football. Eddie especially enjoyed night games under the lights of Kinnick Stadium with his family. Eddie was also a loyal Cubs fan, was a member of Master Gardeners and enjoyed evenings in the driveway with his friends.
Eddie is survived by his daughter, Shelley (Brad) Huss of Ankeny, Iowa; son, Steve Cox of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Trent Huss, Sam Cox, Natalie Huss, Carley Huss and Matthew Cox; sister, Marcia McNeill of Bagley, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, Connie; parents; and brother, Tom Cox.
The family asks that any memorial contributions be donated to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.
