Hawkeyes beat Maryland 80-75 behind Keegan Murray’s 35 points
Iowa gets first Big Ten victory in a white-knuckler

IOWA CITY — Iowa got its first Big Ten men’s basketball win of the season, beating Maryland 80-75 Monday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Iowa forward Keegan Murray, the nation’s leading scorer, matched his career-high with 35 points for the Hawkeyes (11-3 overall, 1-2 Big Ten). Maryland fell to 8-5 and 0-2.
Murray equaled the 35 points he scored against Utah State on Dec. 21. He made 5 of 6 3-pointers.
Filip Rebraca had his high as a Hawkeye with 13 points. Joe Toussaint had nine assists.
Iowa took a 54-53 lead with 12:11 left and didn’t relinquish it, though its 68-58 lead with 5:22 remaining was cut to 77-75 with 10 seconds left.
Jordan Bohannon made one of two free throws with: 07 left. Eric Ayala missed the first of two free throws with: 04 to play, then fired the second one off the backboard without touching the rim, giving the ball to Iowa on the violation.
The Hawkeyes successfully inbounded the ball, Bohannon made two free throws with 3.4 seconds left, and the game was decided.
Iowa’s next game is Thursday night at No. 23 Wisconsin, a 74-69 winner at No. 3 Purdue Monday.
