Imogene "Genee" Coles, 93, died Jan. 2, 2022. Services at 5 p.m. with visitation at 4 p.m. on Jan. 6 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A livestream of the service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Imogene Coles under the video tab starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6.
Genee was born Jan. 19, 1928, in Pontiac, Mich., to Elmore Edward and Ida Jane (Cuthbert) Harger. She received her BA at Eastern Michigan University and MA at University of Northern Iowa. She married Alfred Coles Jr. in 1950. He died in 1994. She taught school in Pontiac, Coopersville and Lansing, Mich., and in Washington, Olin and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She loved being with family and friends, sewing, playing Bridge and traveling. She always had a sense of adventure demonstrated when she parasailed at age 72. She volunteered for many years as a driver for Aging Services and Meals on Wheels. Her faith and church were very important to her.
Genee is survived by her children, Lynne and John Hanna, Richard and Nancy Coles, Karen and Brandon Larson and Cindy and Donald Barrett; grandchildren, Melissa and Pat Rowan, Michael and Amy Coles, Kimberly Hanna, Andrew and Megan Young, Thomas and Lisa Young, Sara Coles, Jennifer Coles, Katie Coles, Lisa Barrett, Kathryn and Nick Jones, Laura and Derek Schroder, Nathan Barrett, Madelyn Larson, Nicolas Larson and Lucas Larson; and great-grandchildren, Amiah, Lillian, Brantley, Riann, Clyde, Emily, Orion, Finnagan and Emmett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Al; her parents; and sister, Rebecca Martin.
Memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice or a charity of the donors choosing.
