Visitation: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:30 a.m. at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by Deacon Paul Zimmerman.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Carol; children, Brandy (Steve) Lyman, Holly Becwar and Brian (Misty) Becwar; grandchildren, Colt and Kat Lyman, Kamar Irvin, and Drake and Delani Becwar; siblings, Bob (Lois) Becwar and Evelyn Becwar; sister-in-law, Joyce Becwar; Carol's family, Jeanette Nolte, Betty (Roger) Kuehl, Alma Bockenstedt and Johnny Forst; brother-in-law, Eddie Linder; several nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy (Fritsche) Becwar; father- and mother-in-law, Vencil and Mildred Forst; brother, Paul; sisters-in-law, Mary Linder and Theresa Marso; brothers-in-law, Harmon Nolte, Dale Marso, and Hank Bockenstedt; and special friends, Ron and Pat Wittbrodt.
Dale Thomas Becwar was born Dec. 13, 1944, in Prairie Du Chien, Wis. He proudly served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard for several years, where he was known for his baking skills. While working at his uncle's auto body shop, he met Carol Forst when she brought her car into the shop for repairs, he was smitten. They were married Oct. 30, 1971, in Prairie Du Chien. He worked as a maintenance engineer at Colonial Bakery, and later began a company with his son, D & B Property Services, where he worked on maintaining buildings, equipment, and helped with upkeep and remodeling. He "retired" a year or so ago, though no one is sure if he'd actually stopped working.
Dale enjoyed visiting local restaurants and casinos with Carol, traveling to Chicago and Denver, riding roller coasters, attending the Iowa State Fair each year, growing his very well-cared-for tomatoes and tinkering in the garage. He was a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Dale's most cherished activity was spending time with his beloved family, especially the grandkids, whose activities and sports events he loved attending. He will be missed by his loving family. Dale was a supportive and caring person whose presence took over the room. He always knew what to say and his circle of family and friends were significantly meaningful to him. He was known to put everyone else first and, often said, "But enough about me…"
