Dorothy Jacobs Hillis of Iowa City died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021.
Dorothy was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Kirksville, Mo., to Victor Douglas and Reta Haley Jacobs. She was married to Lee Hills, Jr. in Iowa City on Oct. 14, 1944.
She was a business education teacher in the Marshalltown High School for 19 years. She moved to Iowa City in August of 1999. She was also a musician, having played violin in the Nashville Symphony, the Des Moines Symphony and the Central Iowa Community Orchestra. She also was church organist at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown for many years.
She is survived by her three sons, Ron Hillis, Stephen (Carrol) Hillis and Dave (Lenny) Hillis. In addition, she is survived by her five grandchildren, Ben (Vickie) Hillis, Luke Hillis, Evan Hillis, Suzanne Ramsey and Elizabeth (Eric) Richmond; and six great-grandchildren, Paul and Olivia Ramsey, Nathan, Matthew and Jonathan Hillis, and Lydia Richmond.
No public services are being planned; Dorothy had donated her physical remains to the University of Iowa for medical research. Online condolences may be sent to Dorothy's family through the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation website at www.gayandciha.com.
