James "Jim" Jensen, 83, lifelong resident of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on Dec. 23, 2021 at Bickford Assisted Living.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, at 10 a.m. The family will greet friends from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church before the mass. James Jensen was born Dec. 27, 1937, to Aage and Evelyn (Seydel) Jensen. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1956 before marrying his high school sweetheart, Mary Ellen Boyd in 1957. The couple raised their seven children in Iowa City, where they enjoyed 61 memorable years together before she passed away in 2018. Jim was a lifelong carpenter, referee, and member of the Iowa Hawkeye chain gang for many years. His grandchildren were his pride and joy - he had many nicknames for them. Everyone was his sweetheart or love. He attended many Regina sporting events and loved watching his grandchildren compete, no matter the sport. Volunteering at Regina as often as possible was also near and dear to his heart. He loved volunteering at Regina and in 2019 was awarded the Regina Outstanding Service Honorary Alumni Award by the Regina Foundation.
Jim is survived by six children, James "Jimbo" Jensen, Theresa (Tim) Kleinmeyer, Mike (Fran) Jensen, Kelly Jensen, Kevin Jensen, David (Tami) Jensen; three daughters-in-law, Patti, Julie and Deb; son-in-law, Lance (Joan) Crum; his lifelong special friends, Harry and Marilyn Rogers; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dick Jensen, Jerry Jensen and Chuck Jensen; three sisters-in-law, Margie (Dick) McNamara, Marilyn Boyd and Trish Jensen; and four brothers-in-law, Mike (Sally) Boyd, Jerry (Linda) Boyd, Tom (Carole) Boyd and Bill (Sheila) Boyd.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary Ellen; his beloved daughter, Jeanne Crum; his parents; one sister, Julie Jensen; sister-in-law, Debbie Jensen; two brothers, Bill and Tom Jensen; and brother-in-law, Pat Boyd.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Rick Larew and his staff for the compassionate care over the years.
