Lorice T. David, 92, of Cedar Rapids, went home suddenly to be with our Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. George Orthodox Church by Father Fred Shaheen. Burial: St. George Orthodox Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. A Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m. Due to concerns over the novel coronavirus, family members and friends are requested to wear a mask to any funeral event. Lorice is survived by her four sons, Michael A., Steven G. (Sandra L.) and Larry, all of Cedar Rapids, and George (Sandra K.) of Fairfax; daughter-in-law, Debra David; grandchildren, Michelle, Scott, Chad, Heather, Tashianna, Jordon, Austin, Alex and Adam David; three great-grandchildren, Christian, Nathan and Jenna Lorice; sister, Barbara (Paul) Lammers of Spirit Lake; brother, Arthur (Marcia) Nimmer of Milwaukee, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, George A. David Sr.; brother, Joseph Nimmer; sister, Josephine Saltzman; and daughter-in-law and Michael A. late wife, Ruth David.
Lorice was born on Sept. 30, 1929, in Sioux City, daughter of Samuel and Mabel Skaff Nimmer and attended Sioux City Central High School. After school she met the love of her life, George A. David, and they were married in June of 1948 in Sioux City. Lorice and George moved to Cedar Rapids and opened David's Grocery and they went on to own and operate many David family restaurants. Lorice was very active in the businesses, and she helped her husband and sons at the Log Cabin Pizza House, Flamingo Pizza Palace and Pizza Village in Cedar Rapids and at David's Restaurant in Marion. She was a lifelong member of St. George Orthodox Church and was strong in her belief and faith.
Lorice's greatest joys were her ever present faith, her cooking and doing for her family. She would cook wonderful meals, especially Lebanese dishes, which her family cherished. Lorice will be greatly missed by her family, friends and church community.
