A Celebration of Life for John P. Kaalberg, 59, of Coralville, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021, at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. His body will be cremated following the service. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook Page. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, at the Peterseim Funeral Home. Attendees are invited to wear black and gold attire. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds can be given to the Mid-Prairie Foundation or the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. John Kaalberg died Monday, Dec. 13, 2021, at his home following a sudden illness.
John Patrick Kaalberg was born Sept. 22, 1962, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Robert and Kay (Hunter) Kaalberg. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1981. John was united in marriage to Kristine Norman on April 20, 1991. The couple later divorced. He worked for Hawkeye Wholesale Foods, later becoming US Foods, for over 30 years. John was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes football fan, was a season ticket holder and enjoyed traveling to away games, including bowl games and attended the Rose Bowl game in 2016 with his daughter Kaitlin. He loved attending all of Kaitlin's sporting events and considered himself a grill master, grilling wings at Nitro games. John made a trip to Fort Dodge for state softball every year.
Survivors include his daughter, Kaitlin of Tiffin; mother, Kay Kaalberg and aunt, June Hunter, both of Williamsburg; father, Robert Kaalberg of Marshall, Wis.; three brothers, Wayne (Sally) Kaalberg of DeForest, Wis., Craig (Karen) Kaalberg of Davenport, Iowa, and Kevin (Andrea) Kaalberg of McCook, Neb.; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceding John in death were his maternal grandparents, Loyal and Mildred Hunter; and paternal grandparents, John and Marguerite Kaalberg.
