Betty Ann Brown, 93, of Iowa City, died peacefully surrounded by her children Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, at Bickford Cottage in Iowa City.
Betty Ann Matson was born April 17, 1928, in Newhall, Iowa, the daughter of Ed and Ida (Boddicker) Matson. She attended school in Newhall, playing on the girls’ basketball team, graduating in 1945. Prior to marriage, she worked as a telephone operator in Newhall and later in Cedar Rapids. On Jan. 31, 1949, she married Louis F. Brown in Independence, Iowa.
Betty loved caring for her family, raising their children and taking care of their home. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed league play with Louis. Betty loved playing slots and going to the casino with family and friends. She liked watching any type of sports including football, basketball and baseball that were her favorites. Most of all, her family was everything in her life. Betty was a sincere, kind and generous person, a loyal mother figure to many. She will be dearly missed.
Her family includes her children, Jamieson Brown (Kathy), Pamela Curtis (Larry) and Stephanie Goolsby (Greg Sundberg); granddaughters, Danielle Dugan and Nicole Bradley (Adam) and great-granddaughter, Evelyn Jordan.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; infant son, Jeffery; her parents, Ed and Ida Matson; and her five siblings, Ed Matson, Alice Ellingson, Virginia Seifert, Rosellen Seaton and Mary Matson.
