Art Staed of Cedar Rapids seeking seventh term in new Iowa House District 80

CEDAR RAPIDS — Iowa Democratic Rep. Art Staed of Cedar Rapids will seek re-election in House 80, a district created in the redistricting plan approved by lawmakers earlier this year.
Staed, 72, currently represents House 66, which covers northeast Cedar Rapids. House 80 covers more than half the same territory as well as Hiawatha and Robins.
“I am hopeful that my new constituents, along with my current constituents, will give me the opportunity to represent them and help improve the quality of life for all Iowans,” Staed said.
He was first elected to the House in 2006 and served one term. He ran again and has served in the Legislature since 2010.
Staed is the ranking Democrat on the House Environmental Protection Committee. He also serves on the joint Education Appropriations Subcommittee, Ways and Means, Education, Local Government, and Economic Growth committees. In 2022, he will be the ranking member of Economic Growth.
Staed, a Missouri native who holds master’s degrees in secondary education and educational administration, taught at the high school and community college levels. He worked in sales and management for a cellular phone company before returning to teaching in Cedar Rapids. Staed and his wife, Susan, also owned and operated a Cedar Rapids coffee shop.
He and Susan have four children.
