Shirley M. Goerg, 78, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, at her home. The family will greet friends and family from 3 to
5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
Shirley was born on Sept. 14, 1943, in Hammond, Ind., the daughter of Floyd and Lela (Orrick) Liechty. She graduated from Thornton Fractional South High School in Lansing, Ill. Her passion for cosmetology took her to Don Roberts Beauty School in Calumet City, Ill., and Alamo Beauty College in San Antonio, Texas. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Goerg in 1969. Kenneth later passed away. Shirley was a cosmetologist and drove school buses, charter buses and semis. She enjoyed Bingo and showcasing her crocheting, sewing and jewelry at craft shows. Shirley will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Mike Murray of Cedar Rapids, Kim (Lisa) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Rayna (Craig) Hird of Omaha, Neb., and Ken (Jennifer) Goerg of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Robert DeVenney, Jennah Goerg and Kenny Goerg; stepgrandchildren, Michael Borurdette and Matthew Borurdette; her "other son," Robert Stender of Dayton, Iowa; and her beloved fur babies, Missy, Tag and Jasmine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson, baby Ashley; and brothers, Billy and Tom Liechty.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed Dogs Forever in Cedar Rapids to support the Seniors for Seniors program.
