MICHAEL RAY LANGGUTH
Indianapolis, Ind.
Michael Ray Langguth, 59, of Indianapolis, Ind., passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021. The third of four children, Mike was born in Goodland, Kan., on Feb. 27, 1962, to Jack and Joan Langguth. His family moved to Palo, Iowa, in the mid-1960s, where he remained through young adulthood. A natural athlete, he played baseball, football and basketball at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, where he was a member of the graduating class of 1980. He began his career with the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller in 1989 in Long Island, N.Y. He landed in Indianapolis, Ind., in 1993, and retired there in 2017.
Mike was an avid golfer and spent the majority of his time at West Chase Golf Club in Brownsburg, Ind., where he was a member of the Men's Club. Competitive to the core, he also participated in pool and bowling leagues on the West Side of Indianapolis. Mike was the proud owner of multiple Iowa Hawkeyes jerseys, as he was a die hard fan. He was always watching sports, particularly rooting for his Green Bay Packers or his Cubbies. He enjoyed playing cards, watching movies, going to concerts, traveling and spending time with his loved ones. He adored his family and frequently spoke of how proud of his children he was. In his own words, Mike spent each day "just trying to be a better man."
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Jack Ray Langguth; and his mother, Joan Adele Langguth.
He is survived by his wife, Evangelia Langguth; three children: daughter, Courtney (Tyler) Holland, daughter, Taryn Langguth and son, Connor Langguth; one stepdaughter, Marissa Shales; three siblings, Mick (Charlie) Langguth, Amy (Dennis) Hobson and Mark (Jen) Langguth; three granddaughters; multiple nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Mike always talked about wanting his Celebration of Life to be a party and not a funeral. His wife, Angie, was planning to host a surprise 60th birthday party for Mike in February of 2022. Therefore in lieu of a formal memorial service at this time, Mike's life will be celebrated with a party to take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, at West Chase Golf Club. Please plan to celebrate by wearing Hawkeyes, Packers or Cubs gear, or by wearing your favorite band t-shirt.
