He attended Sam's Technical Institute Inc (ITT Tech) and earned an associate degree of electrical engineering technology, and then attended Indiana Northern University where he earned a bachelor's degree of science. Upon graduation, he moved to Cedar Rapids to work at Rockwell Collins. He met Jan Gates at a church singles group and told her he was going to marry her on their second date. After leaving the Air Force, Len returned to Rockwell Collins, where he worked for over 40 years until he retired. He and Jan had multiple foster children and then four of their own children. Len enjoyed fishing and took yearly family trips to Minnesota. He volunteered on a regular basis at Cedar Valley Christian School fixing computers and was actively involved at Cedar Valley Bible Church where he first met and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
After retirement, Len enjoyed traveling with Jan and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He also loved being Papa to his 14 grandchildren.
