Joyce Schmidt, 91, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at home in Meth-Wick Community.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, James Schmidt of Truckee, Calif.; granddaughter, Lauren Block of West Des Moines; grandson, Jason Block of Minneapolis, Minn.; along with great-grandchildren, Maddie, Jude and Lewis; and a brother, George Hagen of Buena Vista, Calif.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Donald Schmidt; daughter, Janet Block; and son, Steve Schmidt.
Joyce was born Feb. 18,1930, to parents, Christian and Esther Hagen in Fargo, N.D. She attended St Luke's Nursing School in Fargo,and received her nursing credentials. Joyce married Donald Schmidt in Fargo, on June 2, 1954. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1957 with their family. Joyce worked at Armstrong's Department Store in sporting goods for over 20 years.
Joyce was an accomplished watercolor artist, she enjoyed bridge with couples, skiing and playing the piano. She volunteered at First Lutheran Church, Indian Creek Nature Center, and the Clown Connection of Cedar Rapids. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Indian Creek Nature Center.
