Dorothy A. Yotty, 89, of Kalona, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, at 10 a.m. at the Kalona United Methodist Church. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook page. Masks are recommended and would be appreciated by the family. Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. The family will greet friends from 2 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given to the Kalona United Methodist Church or Hospice of Washington County.
Dorothy Rae (Hochstedler) Yotty was born in Johnson County on March 18, 1932, the daughter of Lewis and Annie Marie (Plank) Hochstedler. She attended Snake Hollow School and graduated from Kalona High School in 1950. On Sept. 10, 1950, she was united in marriage to Raymond L. "Bart" Yotty at the Kalona Methodist Church.
Bart and Dorothy owned and operated the Yotty Hardware Store for 50 years. She was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, where she was part of the United Methodist Women, and she was a member of the Naomi Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the Am-Vets Ladies Auxiliary Post 107.
Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing golf, reading and going to church. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, enjoyed going to Iowa football games and loved giving hugs.
Survivors include one daughter, Anna Marie Yotty; son, Steve (Mary Jo) Yotty; four grandchildren, Jerry (Traci) Zahradnek, Jake (Jenny) Zahradnek, Jessie Zahradnek and Jordon (Jessica) Yotty; and eight great-grandchildren, Maddi (Justin), Shelby, Jack, Kole, Kora, Gabe, Garrett and Bella.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents; her husband, Bart; two sisters, Mary Kathryn Karr and Marjorie Strabala; niece, Susan Halverson; and nephew, Mike Karr.
