Michael Joe Penrod, 51, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, lost his battle with COVID-19 on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, at the UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesay, Nov. 23, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. An inurnment service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24,
at the Postville Cemetery in Postville, with Elder and brother-in-law, Andrew Webber officiating.
Michael was born on March 21, 1970, in Postville, Iowa. He is the son of Robert and Patricia (Brandenburg) Penrod. He was a graduate of Postville High School, Class of 1988; and also a graduate of Upper Iowa University, Class of 1993.On Aug. 17, 1996, Michael married Julie A. Hindman in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mike was an insurance specialist at TrueNorth Insurance. Mike was an avid sports fan, he especially liked the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs. Mike enjoyed fishing and golfing, and spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish Michael's memory are his wife, Julie of Cedar Rapids; his children, Alyssa (Dalton Fox) Penrod of Marion, Iowa, and Tyler Penrod of Moline, Ill.: his grandchildren, Avah Sulzbacher and Novalie Palacios; his parents, Bob and Patty Penrod of Postville, Iowa; his sister, Mary (Gerett) Guese of Postville, Iowa; his grandmother, Elnora Penrod of Waukon, Iowa; in-laws, DeWayne and Diana Hindman of Cedar Rapids; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Murphy and Lucy, and his cat Tobi.
Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Penrod; his grandfather, Robert Penrod; and his uncle, Floyd Penrod.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at the UnityPoint-St. Luke's ICU unit for all of the care and support they showed Mike while he was in their care.
