ALEXANDER WILLIAM PHILLIPS
Cedar Rapids
Alexander "Alex" William Phillips, 33, of Cedar Rapids, traveled to heaven surrounded by his family, Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021,
7:49 p.m. at St. Luke's Hospital of a sudden cardiac arrest.
Alex enjoyed video gaming, reading books, computers, building gaming computers, traveling and also loved all pets. Alex graduated school in 2008 and attended computing classes at Kirkwood College. The one statement we heard often from his teachers was, have you any idea what your sons IQ is. If a family member couldn't find an answer, we had a phrase in our family, "Just ask Alex." He almost always had the answer to any question. Alex worked at Pizza Hut as a teenager, Nordstrom for several years and also drove Door Dash and Uber. Alex joined the Anime lowa Club at 20 and quickly became an administrator for the club, organizing events and running game rooms until his passing. Alex purchased his first new car in August, all electric, after the car was delivered he went on a vacation to California. He talked occasionally about seeing the Grand Canyon sometime so he stopped there, stayed in the Grand Tetons Mountains and Yellowstone. He enjoyed reading, boating with his parents, going to amusement parks with his sister, driving cars and raising freshwater fish, recently setting up a 180 gallon freshwater bala shark aquarium in his room. Alex lived in his parents home his entire 33 years and had a very close relationship with his parents and sister. He also had a amazing relationship with his nieces, they often played in his room, watching his fish, listening to music and playing pc/video games. He also drove them to school occasionally.
Alex is survived by his mom, Ella Marie Phillips; dad, Craig William Phillips; sister, Samantha Kay Phillips; nieces, Veronika and Dianna; grandma, Sarah Hornbeck of Cedar Rapids; and grandma, Mary Leatherberry of Missouri. Alex was preceded in death by grandpa, Gene Phillips; grandpa, Jan Hornbeck; and grandpa, Russ Leatherberry.
Alex you were a gift from god and heaven above, now they have taken you back. Alex our great son in heaven, we love you so much, someday soon we will all be together again.
Funeral services will be private.
