Michael Bernard Swift passed away on Nov. 16, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, at St. Pius Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with visitation one hour before
the service and lunch immediately following. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Greenfield, Iowa Cemetery. A gathering time will follow at the Hotel Greenfield, 110 E. Iowa Street.
Survivors include wife, Norma; sons, Timothy (Penny), Fairhope, Ala., and Mark (Bridget), Boynton Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Christina, Ryan, Brandon and Brielle Swift and Nicolette Dussias; sister, Kay Calkins (Larry); and brother, Dennis Swift.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Evelyn Swift; and brother, Richard Swift.
Mike was born on Oct. 21, 1944, to Bernard (Chick) and Evelyn Swift in Greenfield, Iowa. He was raised on their farm and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1962. He loved working outside, especially with his horses as a youth and when his sons were in 4-H. He married his high school sweetheart, Norma Jean Kellenberg, on Sept. 5, 1964. After living in several western Iowa towns, they raised their sons in Creston, Iowa and moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1990.
Mike began working at the age of 12 for other farmers and continued working until his final retirement at age 68. He was employed by various power companies, beginning at Farmers Electric Cooperative in Greenfield and retiring from Central Iowa Power Co. (CIPCO). He then worked on short term projects for power and engineering companies.
Mike was a longtime blood donor, donating over 24 gallons. He was also an organ donor.
