Christopher A.W. Borders, 39, of Iowa City, died unexpectedly on Nov. 13, 2021. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City with a Celebration of Chris's Life beginning at 2 p.m. Memorials can be directed to the Christopher Borders Memorial Fund.
Born Dec. 29, 1981, in Iowa City, the son of Steven F. and Lynn V. (Fraser) Borders, Chris grew up in Iowa City and graduated from Iowa City High School in 2000. He maintained a busy work ethic, contributing his efforts to the former Hardee's on Lower Muscatine Road, Ace Hardware on Mall Drive and Oral B. Chris also worked as a manager at both Iowa City and Coralville Wendy's restaurants. Most recently, he managed the eastside Iowa City Hamburg Inn, and after its closing, transitioned to the Hamburg Inn location on North Linn Street.
When not working, Chris enjoyed spending time with and taking care of his African Gray Parrot, Peeps and loving and playing with his godson George Emmett Johnston (born 5/27/20). He also enjoyed spending time with George's parents, Amy and Joe and being with his numerous friends.
Chris is survived by his father, Steven Borders of Des Moines/Iowa City; his mother, Lynn Borders of Iowa City; brother, Daniel Borders of Iowa City; grandmother, Jean Borders of Cedar Rapids; Godson, George Johnston; uncles and aunts, Mike (Laurie) Fraser, Noel Benson, Kay (Ron) Nickel, Val (Jim) Seifert and Mary Baillargeon; and cousins, Brad Benson, Jody Benson, Matt Fraser, Heather Fraser, Tim Nickel, Holly West, Kelly Clifford, Elizabeth Hyman and Gabe Baillargeon
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Loyal and Arline Fraser and Marion Borders.
